Trends in carpet styles—much like fashion—tend to be cyclical; what was popular ten years ago isn’t popular today, and what’s popular today probably won’t be popular ten years down the line. Most homeowners don’t want to shoulder the expense (or the hassle) of changing their carpeting each time the winds of change begin to blow.
However, some trends have better staying-power than others do. To help you navigate the top carpet trends of 2018, we put together a list of what’s hot, what’s not, and which trends we expect to remain at the forefront of interior décor for the foreseeable future.
What’s Hot
Patterned carpets are a huge hit with homeowners right now, and we don’t expect to see this trend fade into obscurity any time soon. Geometric shapes, Damask patterns, and multi-tonals add interest underfoot to create a focal point that is sure to be a conversation starter wherever you install these bold styles in your home.
Mohawk’s Vintage Visions product line redefines classic styling by bringing old-world flair into current-day residential settings, making this 100% Wear-Dated SoftTouch BCF Nylon one of the hottest-selling carpet products in the flooring industry.
Another popular product line comes from Shaw Industries—a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., the holding company of renowned investor and financial guru Warren Buffet.
Mohawk isn’t the only carpet manufacturer offering eye-catching carpets to consumers, though. Shaw’s Caress product line is rich in color and design; the product’s silky smooth yarns set the benchmark for carpet that is beautiful, refined, durable, and luxurious to the touch. Caress is a BCF Nylon made from recycled materials and carries a twenty-year no-wrinkle guarantee from the manufacturer.
As for 2018’s trends in carpet colors, subdued blues and cool grays seem to be the most popular colors with homeowners. Moreover, coral is another big hit in residential settings.
What’s Not
Beige and neutral tones will always have their place in the world of interior décor, of course, but fewer and fewer homeowners gravitate to these color schemes as bolder shades begin to flood the marketplace.
Carpet tiles are another trend that looks as if it will fade away in the next several years. They serve their purpose in commercial settings because if one tile incurs damage, you can always replace it. This look is better suited for classrooms and office-type settings than it is for a residential setting.
Ombre patterns were a big hit when they first hit the scene a few years back, but trends in consumer tastes show that ombre patterns are on their way out. A small, well-placed area rug may still look fine, but we wouldn’t recommend going wall-to-wall with an ombre pattern.
