Looking to get wood floors installed in your home? We’re willing to bet you are interested in hardwood.
What if we told you that laminate flooring would be a better selection for you? What would you say?
Why Homeowners are Loving Laminate Flooring
Laminate first started off as a plastic-looking and cheap alternative for natural hardwood. With technological advancements, it has come a long way.
Today’s laminate flooring products capture the real look of natural materials almost perfectly. It also offers more durability and versatility. This means you can install laminate flooring anywhere, which is something that homeowners enjoy.
Laminate is now a bold and innovative flooring material suited for any occasion, making it an obvious flooring choice for your home. It doesn’t stop there, however.
Laminate offers a large amount of benefits that natural hardwood cannot such as:
- Selection – While hardwood does have a variety to it, laminate takes the cake. This is because it comes in a wider selection of colors, textures, and can be made to look like stone or ceramic.
- Scratch, Stain, and Fade Resistance – Laminate is excellent at resisting scratches, staining, and fading. See it in action in the video above.
- No Refinishing Needed – Hardwood flooring needs to be refinished when it starts to wear out or gets damaged. Laminate doesn’t require any kind of refinishing.
- Location – Laminate resists moisture and varying humidity levels, so it can be installed where you want it. Just be careful if you choose to install it in the bathroom.
- Real Look and Feel – A well-manufactured laminate can look and feel just like natural hardwood and costs a fraction of the price.

Keep Up with the Trends
Many homes today can be seen with wood flooring in their home, especially the kitchens. Typically, wood flooring wasn’t recommended for kitchens to prevent water and moisture damage.
With laminate, this problem isn’t much of a concern. When laminate is installed properly, seams are tight and almost non-existent. This means that water will have a difficult time seeping into the floor below.
Lee Wallender, a home renovations expert, says, “One frequent knock against laminate is that it’s a kind of pressed board, not “real wood.” Yet the fact that it’s “fake wood” acts as a strength.”
Since laminate is considered a “fake wood”, the laminate core is able to maintain it’s shape when water spills on it. Hardwood tends to warp and swell when water gets to it for too long of a time.
Your kitchen furniture won’t scratch up the laminate either. Most hardwoods will scratch when kitchenware is pulled along the floor. Since laminate is resistant to scratching, it will stay looking fresh for a long while. You can add furniture pads to your chairs for further protection as well.
Lee expands more on the use of laminate in kitchens here in his About Home article. Give it a read if you would like to learn more.
