Ever wonder why your grandma makes you take your shoes off before you enter her living room?
How about why not wearing shoes in a house has been something instilled in our brains since we were conscious of what a shoe was?
The same statement that we now pass on to our own families contains a much more salient issue than the tracks of dirt that are carried with us.
How Dirty are your Shoes?
Imagine your day to day life. How much walking outdoors or in public vicinities are you participating in?
How many puddles, various bathroom floors, or pieces of gum do you step on? All of these said items contain amplitudes of substances harmful to our bodies, not to mention our beautiful home décor or our lovely soft carpet!
We want to preserve this beauty along with our health as long as possible, which is why you should avoid wearing shoes inside your house.
According to a study done at The University of Arizona, researchers have found an average of nearly 421,000 bacteria on the bottoms of 96% of shoes. Among these bacteria are an alarming amount of:
- E.coli
- Klebsiella Pneumoniae (responsible for those pesky hard-to-rid-of urinary tract infections)
- Serratia Ficaria (responsible for those runny noses, sore throats, fevers, headaches, etc.)
Not only that, but think of the disgusting amount of bird droppings or various other animal feces that are spread from one accidental step to the next. Animal droppings are likely to contain another bacterium that can potentially cause life-threatening infections; Clostridium Difficile, otherwise known as C. diff.
The point is, the more you wear your shoes in your home, the more you track all over your current carpet and flooring.
Unfortunately, bacteria is not our only issue.
Not only do the wearing of our shoes in the house have potential to cause us illness, it is also quite annoying to clean up. Imagine requiring a professional carpet cleaning all the time just because of your shoes.
But what happens when no matter what preventatives you take, your carpet just won’t come clean. What do you do?
