It takes a special person to commit to molding impressionable young minds as his or her life’s work—a kind, nurturing, enthusiastic, and empathetic soul who isn’t afraid of working long hours, grading papers on weekends, and possibly dodging an occasional spitball in the process.
As the unsung heroes of our society, teachers play a critical role in shaping the hopes, dreams, and aspirations of each student who enters their classroom, and that’s just one of the many reasons we’d like to acknowledge our nation’s educators on May 8 for National Teacher Day 2018.
Educating our youth is a profession that requires immeasurable patience, endless creativity, vast knowledge, and a soft heart. With the exception of our immediate family members, the first people that help us shape our worldview are the valiant souls who dedicate their careers to teaching us the fundamentals of English, mathematics, science, history, the arts, and kickball.
Nearly everyone has a story about a teacher whose tutelage made a difference in his or her life, someone that took the extra time to provide guidance and encouragement when they needed it most. If you’re the parent of a school-aged child, there’s a good chance that your child’s teacher will become one of the driving forces in helping your son or daughter realize that he or she can become an astronaut, a doctor, a botanist, an artist, or whoever they dream to become in adulthood.
America’s teachers deserve better pay, improved access to educational resources, and all the praise in the world for choosing such a courageous career path. You may not be able to give your child’s teacher a raise, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t express your appreciation by sending them a thank-you card or an edible arrangement, or by writing a heartfelt testimonial to remind them that you’re grateful for their commitment to a truly noble profession.
Our CEO, Joe Zago, has a soft spot for teachers because his both of his parents dedicated their lives to teaching. To express our gratitude for all that Michigan’s educators do, The Carpet Guys give a 10% discount to all teachers, whether active or retired.
If you’d like to show a teacher in your community that you appreciate them for all that they do to mold young minds, you can download a free certificate of appreciation to give to your favorite teacher by clicking the link listed below.
